Dr Diaz Visits the SERC for Potential Cooperation in Cubesat Missions with Chile

Dr. Diaz is an associate professor for the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Chile and the Director of the Space and Planetary Exploration Laboratory ( SPEL https://spel.cl/). SPEL is dedicated to the research and development of instrumentation for geosciences, working as a hub for access to space for different research groups in Chile and other countries. The laboratory has designed and launched four CubeSats: SUCHAI (1U, launched in 2017), SUCHA 2 (3U, launched in 2022), SUCHAI 3 (3U, launched in 2022), and Plansat (3U, launched in 2022). Furthermore, the laboratory has developed several instrumentation projects on the ground, such as seismic stations, low-cost Sun photometers, and radars. Receiving funding mainly from the University of Chile, the Chilean Science Agency (ANID), and the American Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Dr. Diaz’s visit was to look for future collaboration in research between SPEL and SERC.
