Uniformity Correction of a Small Animal SPECT System with Spiral Step Data Acquisition
Abstract
1807
Objectives
A small animal (SA) SPECT system acquires data by stepping the scanning bed in a spiral pattern while translating in the axial direction. When using the fast data acquisition mode (FDAM), pitch is increased to shorten scan time. As a tradeoff, uniformity flood (UF) images have distinct non-uniformity patterns. Our aim is to develop and evaluate a uniformity correction (UC) method for images acquired with the FDAM.
Methods
We studied the SA SPECT system’s spiral step sequences with user defined scan volumes (UDSVs) of different sizes while using the FDAM. Each UDSV had a transaxial cross-section of 28 mm in diameter and different axial lengths (ALs). Sets of UDSVs with certain ALs were found to have UF images with matching non-uniformities. Using one UDSV set, 4 syringes were filled with 10, 15, 20, and 25 ml of ~0.4 mCi/ml 99mTc solution and imaged with the FDAM using ALs of 49, 63 …
