Bio

Siyi Zhou earned her Master of Science in Digital Social Media from the University of Southern California in August 2023, following a Bachelor of Science in Communication Media Design with a minor in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2021.

 

Research Summary

Siyi Zhou has a keen interest in unveiling the social dynamics during crises and unrest using computational methodologies. Participating in research at the USC Information Science Institute, Siyi has led various impactful projects, including unveiling human traffickers' social media activity using job posts and understanding censorship dynamics during the White Paper Movement in China. Her works provided a deeper understanding of how marginalized groups navigate controlled information spaces. Her works are published and she has presented her findings at notable conferences such as ICWSM and APSA.
